Tip Trapper

Where is my data stored?

On your phone. Every shift, tip, and hour you log lives on your device, along with any IOUs and coworker names you save. We don't run a server that collects it, so nothing is sent to us and there's nothing for us to see, sell, or lose in a data breach. If you choose to save a copy to your own iCloud Drive or Google Drive, that's yours too. We still never see it. Your money, your business.

How do I back up my data?

Mostly, you don't have to think about it. Tip Trapper saves a backup file on your phone automatically every time you change something, and keeps the last 7 days of copies. On iPhone you can see them in the Files app. Your phone's own iCloud backup (iPhone) or Google backup (Android) normally includes the app's data too. Want a copy off your phone? Tap Save a copy and send it wherever you like, such as iCloud Drive, Google Drive, or your email. The app will remind you every 30 days to stash one somewhere safe, so a lost or broken phone never costs you a season of tips.

I got a new phone. How do I move my data?

If you set up your new phone from your old phone's iCloud or Google backup, your tips usually come right along with it. If not, no sweat. Install Tip Trapper on the new phone and restore from a copy you saved with Save a copy. Reinstalled the app on the same phone? You'll get a “Welcome back” option to restore from your last backup.

Can I export for taxes?

Yes. Pick a year, certain weeks, or any dates you want, and export to a spreadsheet (CSV) or a PDF. Open it in Excel, Google Sheets, or Numbers, or hand it to whoever does your taxes. Cash tips, card tips, tip-outs, and hours are all broken out. One row per shift makes it easy to copy into your household budget sheet.

What's in the tax summary?

Pick any year and Tip Trapper adds it all up for you: cash tips, card tips, tip-outs you paid, take-home (your tips minus your tip-outs), and hours. It breaks it down month by month and by restaurant, and you can export it as a spreadsheet or PDF. One honest note: it's a record of what you logged, not tax advice. For questions about what you owe, talk to a tax pro.

Can I make the text bigger?

Absolutely. The very first screen, before anything else, lets you pick Normal, Large, or Extra large, so you can read everything comfortably, the terms included. You can change it anytime in Settings. Tired eyes after a double count too.

How does the tip pot split work?

It's a calculator for that shift only. Pick the restaurant up top (set your usual spot as the default in Settings and it's already picked), put in the cash still in the pot, add everyone who's in on it, and pick Equal or By hours. If somebody already grabbed cash out, say for a shift meal, a shirt, or change, put it on their line and it comes out of their own share instead of everybody's. It shows the math line by line, so nobody has to argue about it at close. When you're done, hit Reset. The amounts are never saved, backed up, or exported. What everybody took home is their business, not your phone's.

Does it save my coworkers' names?

Only if you add them, and only first names. They're saved for each restaurant, so next shift your crew is already in the dropdown and you're not typing Dani for the hundredth time. Never what anybody made or took from the pot. The names stay on your phone and are never sent to us. They're in your backups, so a restore brings them back, but they never show up in your CSV, PDF, or tax summary exports.

What are IOUs?

Sometimes somebody's still short after the split, or you covered a coworker's Uber home. Add an IOU right below the calculator: who owes who, how much, and a note if you want. Unlike the split amounts, IOUs do get saved, since the whole point is not forgetting them. When it's settled, tap Mark paid. It stays there, greyed out, for 7 days so nobody gets asked twice, and then it clears itself.

How is take-home figured?

Simple: your own tips minus the tip-outs you paid. That's the whole formula. Nobody else's earnings are in there.

Will the app send me reminders?

Only if you want it to. Reminders are off until you turn them on. You can get a nightly nudge to log your tips, and one in mid-January to pull up last year's tax summary. Your phone schedules them itself, so nothing is sent to us or anywhere else.

I work at more than one place. Does that work?

Yep. Add each restaurant with its own sections and tip-outs, and each one gets its own color. History lets you filter by restaurant, and the charts put them side by side so you can see where you make the most per shift or per hour. Left a job? Mark it as a former job and it stays in your history without getting in the way.

Can I bring my shifts over from another tip app?

Yep. If your old app can export your shifts as a CSV or Excel file, go to Settings and tap Import from another app. Tip Trapper reads the file on your phone, works out which column is which, and asks you only if it can't tell. You see a preview before anything's saved, duplicates get skipped, and if it doesn't look right, Undo import takes it all back out. Every app exports a little differently, so if yours gives you trouble, email support@fairpriceapps.com and we'll take a look.

Is there a subscription?

Nope. You pay once and it's yours. No monthly fees, no "premium" tier, no surprise charges. We think a tip tracker shouldn't take a cut of your tips.

Are there ads?

Never. No ads, no pop-ups, no "watch a video to unlock." You paid for the app, so the screen is all yours.

Does it work without internet?

Yes. Log a shift in the back of the house or in a dead zone with no signal. Tip Trapper doesn't need a connection to work.

Do you sell my data?

Never. We can't sell what we don't have. No accounts, no analytics, no tracking, and nothing gets sent to us. That's the whole point of Fair Price Apps.

Is there an Android or iPad version?

Not yet. At launch Tip Trapper is iPhone only, and there's no iPad version yet. We're starting on iPhone so we can get it right, then bringing it to Google Play for Android. Want a ping when it's ready? Drop us a line at support@fairpriceapps.com.

Something's not working. What should I do?

Email support@fairpriceapps.com and tell us what happened, what phone you're using, and a screenshot if you can. A real person reads every message, and we usually reply within 2 business days.
